Balang Araw (Some Day)
A series of photographs of Filipino migrant workers and their letters, May 2025.
Photography | Graphic Design | Art by Katelyn Calimag

In celebration of International Workers’ Day on May 1st, I walked around Little Manila in Toronto with my camera. I paid close attention to the workers I met, trying to understand the hard work they carry in the jobs they do every day. Each welcomed me with a smile. I asked if I could take their portrait and invited them to answer one question: “What is your wish for as a worker?”
They openly shared their aspirations and the reasons they keep going. Their handwritten responses are scanned and placed on their photos, inspired by postcards that are often sent to our loved ones.
Through these portraits and conversations, I was inspired to get to know them more and learn about different migration stories.
*Some of the letters are written in the Tagalog language.
